PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

한국교회와 미국의 한인교회가 경험하는 많은 사회적 변화는 개인,
가정, 회중, 그리고 사회적 갈등의 원인이 되고 있습니다. 이러한 여
러 형태의 갈등에 대하여 한국교회는 부흥회, 수련회, 예배 등의 전
통적인 치유사역의 방법으로 대응해왔습니다. 이러한 형태의 치유
사역은 개인주의적 해결책에 국한되기가 쉽고, 문제들의 배경이 되
는 사회문화적 요소에 대한 이해를 등한시할 수 있다는 단점이 있습
니다.
클레어몬트가 새로 시작하는 이중언어 목회학박사 과정은 통합적
상황분석을 강조함으로 개인의 문제만이 아니라, 사회문화 속에서
의 개인에 대한 이해, 또 갈등의 해결책을 제시할 것입니다. 이 학위
과정은 학생들에게 갈등과 치유에 대한 비평적이며 조직적인 이해,
이론과 실천의 접촉점에 대한 비평적 고찰, 임상과 신학의 통합된
기술과 능력을 얻도록 도울 것입니다.

Rapid social changes within Korean and Korean American churches
are resulting in many forms of conflict: individual, familial, congregational,
and social. Many Korean churches adopt traditional forms of healing
ministry, which often include revivals, retreats, and worship services.
However, these tend to be highly individualistic, without accounting
for the larger sociocultural context out of which these conflicts arise.

Claremont’s new bilingual D.Min. program in Practical Theology
moves away from individualistic solutions to emphasize holistic
situational analysis in the context of Korean and Korean American
churches. It offers students a critical and systematic understanding
of conflict and healing, a critical reflection of the interface between
theory and praxis, and acquisition of integrated clinical and theological
skills and competence.
