President Kuan Convenes Strategic Planning Committee
President Kah-Jin Jeffrey Kuan has convened a Strategic Planning Committee tasked with charting a comprehensive vision for the future of Claremont School of Theology (CST). The Committee, which met for the first time in early February, is comprised of CST faculty, students, staff, alumni/ae, and trustees. Committee members will meet on campus approximately every six to eight weeks to engage in a process that will reflect upon CST’s past, assess its present and begin to develop a vision for its future. The strategic planning process is being facilitated by an outside consultant, Lisa Lawrence of Lawrence Consulting Solutions.
The establishment of a Strategic Planning Committee was among President Kuan’s top priorities upon arriving at CST in July 2013 and was met with support from the Board of Trustees. "Our Trustees are committed to working with President Kuan to develop a comprehensive and dynamic strategic plan,” says Trustee and Committee Chair The Rev. Patricia Farris. “We are at a pivotal moment in the life of our School with both critical choice points and exciting possibilities ahead.”
Dr. Grace Yia-Hei Kao, Associate Professor of Ethics and one of two faculty members serving on the Strategic Planning Committee, shares Farris’ enthusiasm for the timeliness of the Committee’s work. “It is time to focus our attention on bringing Claremont School of Theology more fully into the 21st century,” she says. “I'm looking forward to reviewing our programmatic and curricular offerings and identifying more ways to live out our vision for interreligious education."
President Kuan will provide an update on the work of the Strategic Planning Committee as part of his opening remarks at the next scheduled Town Hall Meeting to be held on Tuesday, April 15th at 11:45 AM in Haddon Conference Room. Several members of the Strategic Planning Committee will also attend the meeting. Students, Faculty, and staff who are interested in learning about the Committee and its process are encouraged to attend and to use that space to raise questions or concerns.
Rev. Farris is unequivocal in voicing the importance of community participation and support to the Strategic Planning Committee’s ultimate success. “We welcome input and above all the prayer of the CST community as we work as faithfully and creatively as we are able."
