President Kuan Hosts Moderator and Members of Metropolitan Community Churches
On Monday, March 17th, CST President Jeffrey Kuan hosted a reception in appreciation for the ministry of Rev. Dr. Nancy Wilson, Moderator of Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC). Rev. Dr. Wilson was elected Moderator in July 2005. In October of that year, she was installed at a service held in Washington National Cathedral, becoming just the second person to hold the post and the first woman to lead the MCC, which supports churches and ministries in more than forty countries.
Rev. Dr. Wilson is also a public activist and one of the leading religious voices in America on behalf of LGBTQ equality. In 1979, she participated in the first delegation of LGBT people of faith to meet with a sitting president. She was included among The Advocate’s list of “Ten Pro-LGBT Religious Women You Should Know.” President Obama appointed Rev. Dr. Wilson to the White House Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships in 2011.
In addition to celebrating Rev. Dr. Wilson’s distinguished leadership, this occasion offered a unique opportunity to welcome representatives of the MCC to CST’s campus. “It is a delight for us to host Rev. Dr. Wilson and our friends from the MCC,” said President Jeffrey Kuan. “It is our hope that this event will help to strengthen our bond with MCC. We are inspired by MCC’s prophetic ministries and wish to explore ways in which CST can better train future lay and clergy leaders of the MCC.”
