In Memoriam: Dr. Dan D. Rhoades
Dr. Dan D. Rhoades, Emeritus Faculty at Claremont School of Theology, passed away yesterday. Dan was an ethicist and served on the CST faculty from 1968 until his retirement in 1999. He received his B.A. from Indiana Central College, B.D. from Yale Divinity School, and M.A. and Ph.D. from Yale University. Prior to his tenure at CST he taught at Candler School of Theology, Colorado State University, and Iliff School of Theology. He wrote many academic articles and was active with several professional organizations including the Society for Christian Social Ethics.
Dan was much beloved by both faculty and students, and was especially committed to his role as advisor. His work with Joseph Hough and others at CST on Project Understanding was particularly significant. This was a grant-funded program dealing with congregations and race relations at the beginning of the 1970’s.
Dan is survived by his wife, Peggy, and children, Gary, Stephanie and Brady. Services will take place on Saturday, December 21, at noon at Oak Park Cemetery in Claremont.
