Lutherans and CST Announce New Agreement
CST and ELCA are proud to announce a new agreement to collaborate. On April 17, 2013, Bishop Dean W. Nelson represented the Southwest California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to sign a Vision Statement with President Jerry Campbell, representing Claremont School of Theology.
The agreement honors the work that the ELCA has already done in collaboration with CST, including Rev. Dr. Thom Johnson’s famous weekly “Table Talks,” and the new Bonhoeffer course coming to CST in Fall 2013, that ELCA is underwriting. It is hoped this will be the first step to even closer collaboration between the ELCA MDiv program and CST, but it is an interim agreement that will be re-addressed after ELCA Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and California Lutheran University merge.
"We're happy to be able to offer the students and community of Claremont School of Theology some of the treasures of our Lutheran theological tradition,” said Bishop Nelson. “Prof. Johnson's online course on Dietrich Bonhoeffer is but the first of what we hope will be many offerings at CST that offer seminarians, clergy and laypersons the opportunity to explore how Lutheran thinkers have understood and practiced the Christian faith."
