In Memoriam: Rev. Dr. Mary Ellen Kilsby
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rev. Dr. Mary Ellen Kilsby (DMin '78) on Friday morning, January 4, 2013, at Pilgrim Place, after two months in hospice care. Her final moments were spent in the presence of her four children.
Recently elected to Claremont School of Theology’s board of trustees, Mary Ellen had been an active part of the Claremont community for more than three decades as a student, alumna, donor and adviser to the Center for Process Studies. Mary Ellen and her family were instrumental in establishing The Kilsby Family/John B. Cobb Professorship of Process Studies at Claremont School of Theology. She served as a pastor in the UCC denomination for 24 years in Southern California, where she was one of the first female ministers to lead a large UCC church. It is an understatement to say that she will be greatly missed.
Two services in celebration of her life will be held. The first on Saturday, January 19, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 241 Cedar Ave., Long Beach. The second on Sunday, January 20, at 4 p.m. at Claremont United Church of Christ, 233 Harrison Ave., Claremont, CA 91711.
Her obituary is in the Daily Bulletin. More information will be forthcoming.
