The Special Collections Room houses several important resources for research
in Claremont. In addition to a collection of rare books, there is the School of
Theology Archives, the papers of James Chamberlain Baker (1879 - 1969), bishop
in the Methodist Church, and Mary Eliza Moxcey (b. 1875, an important figure in
the early twentieth century religious education movement, and Kirby Page.
The Library is the repository of the Tune Collection, a specialized collection of publication son the languages, literature, history and cultures of peoples in the Nile Valley and Northeast Africa. The collection covers the time from the beginning of the Hellenistic period, including the Greeks, Egyptians and Meroites, through the early medieval period of Nubian and Coptic Christianity. This library contains almost everything published in the field of Coptic Studies, from tits beginnings in the late 18th century up to the present. It has large holdings of facsimile and critical editions of Coptic biblical patristic, monastic and apocryphal literature. There are voluminous holdings in both the Nag Hammadi Gnostic literature and the Manichaean texts. The collection also includes modest holdings of Egyptological material, especially for the Demotic phase of the language.
Other campus collections include the Archives of the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; the Process Studies Collection of published and unpublished materials supporting the study of process thought; and the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center (ABMC) Collection of more than 2,500 microfilms and other photographic copies of biblical manuscripts. The ABMC houses the largest collection of Dead Sea Scroll images in the world.
