Fine and Replacement Policy

28 Day Books

Books overdue 30 days from the due date are billed at $65 per book. This charge includes: (1) a nonrefundable $10 fine per book; (2) a $15 per book processing fee; and (3) a $40 per book replacement charge.

Reserve Books and Items

2- and 4-hour reserves: $.25 per hour or any part of an hour all other reserves or $.50 per day or any part of a day

When a reserve is 5 days overdue, a bill is sent that includes the replacement cost, a fine, and the processing fee.

Billing Adjustments

When payment is made for a lost book or item, the actual replacement cost may be adjusted to more or less than the standard $40 billing. The fine charge is cancelled if a book or item is reported as lost before it becomes overdue. If a billed book or item is returned, the replacement cost is cancelled. The processing fee is also canceled if the book or item has not been declared lost.

Recalled Books

Fines for recalled books accrue at $1 per day. Replacement bills for overdue recalls are sent 15 days after the recall due date.

Videos, CDs, and Other Items

Videos are fined at $.50 per day, and replacement bills are sent at 2 weeks overdue. The replacement cost is $60, plus a $10 fine and a $15 processing fee.

The fine on CD loans is $10 per day. Replacement cost is $100 (minimum), plus a $15 processing fee.

Other Library items (including audio cassettes and microforms) are fined at $1 per day and billed at 4 weeks overdue. The replacement bill includes a $15 processing fee.

ADDITIONAL POLICY INFORMATION CLAREMONT SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY LIBRARY

Borrowing Privileges and Registration Holds - Library bills are due when received. An unpaid bill will result in a block being placed against borrowing privileges (applies to all borrowers). A hold may also be placed against the registration, graduation or transcript of a student borrower.

Due Dates - Borrowers are responsible for knowing the due date of each item checked out of the Library. A slip with the due date is available when books and materials are borrowed.

Overdue Notices - Overdue notices are sent weekdays when the Library is open. Patrons are responsible for notifying Library staff of changes in postal or email addresses. A fine will not be excused because an overdue notice was not received.

Reserves - Fine charges for reserves begin 10 minutes after books or items are due.

Recalls - When a book recall notice is sent, the recall due date allows 10 days for the borrower to receive the notice and return the book before incurring a fine. Exception: If a book is overdue when recalled, daily fines accrue after 3 days.

Missing or Lost Books and Items - Borrowers are encouraged to report Library materials that have been checked out and may be missing or lost, including books or items they think have been returned (Claims Returned). Prompt reporting may eliminate a fine and will establish a search period before a replacement bill is due.

Processing Fee (Lost Books and Items) - When a Library book or item is declared lost, several steps and the time of more than one staff person are required to complete a process that includes cost verification, billing, catalog correction, and replacement. Therefore, if a book or item is returned after the replacement process has begun, the processing fee is not refunded.

Questions - Please contact a member of the Circulation staff at the Claremont School of Theology Library if you have questions about fines, replacement costs or borrowing policies. Staff can be contacted at cstlibcirc @ cst.edu (remove spaces) or (909) 447-2510.
