GUIDE TO LIBRARY SERVICES FOR STUDENTS, FACULTY and STAFF of

- CLAREMONT SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY
- CLAREMONT GRADUATE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL OF RELIGION
- EPISCOPAL THEOLOGICAL SCHOOL AT CLAREMONT
- DISCIPLES SEMINARY FOUNDATION

Claremont School of Theology Library serves as the major resource center for the study of religion at Claremont. The Library provides services and resources for the academic programs of the Claremont School of Theology, Episcopal Theological School at Claremont (ETSC), and Disciples Seminary Foundation (DSF). In cooperation with The Libraries of The Claremont Colleges, the CST Library also provides services and resources for the programs of the School of Religion at the Claremont Graduate University. Students, faculty, and staff of all of these programs are the Library's primary service group.

Library Privileges
Identification cards issued to CST students, faculty and staff function as CST library cards. Persons affiliated with ETSC, CGU School of Religion, and DSF must apply at CST Circulation for a Library card. All borrowers must present a valid CST library card to check out items.

Please note: Students, faculty and staff with CST identification or Library cards do not automatically have access or borrowing privileges at The Libraries of The Claremont Colleges. Individuals must apply at Honnold/Mudd Library for these privileges.

CIRCULATION OF MATERIALS

Loan Periods
Books in the general collection are loaned to students for 28-day periods. (PhD students at the official dissertation stage in their program are eligible for semester checkouts.) Books loaned to faculty and staff are renewable annually. Reserve items are loaned for 2-hour, 4-hour, 1-day, 2-day or 7-day periods. Items on 2- and 4-hour reserve may be borrowed overnight if they are checked out one hour before the Library closes and returned by 10:00 am the next morning the Library is open. All circulating items may be renewed, provided there are no requests from other patrons, and all items are subject to recall. Periodicals, reference items, and special collections materials do not circulate. Other library materials (including CDs, DVDs, audiocassettes, videos, and church school curricula) are available for short-term loans.

Borrowers are responsible for tracking the due dates of all items they check out. Patrons can confirm due dates and renew materials through the Blais catalog by selecting "View My Library Account" from the main menu, and entering their name and CST Library card number. Patrons also can renew materials by placing a direct dial call to the CST Circulation Desk at (909) 447-2589. Patrons are responsible for notifying CST Circulation staff of address changes (postal and email) so that Library notices can reach them promptly.

Overdue Materials and Fines
Overdue notices are sent by postal service or email on a regular basis for circulating items, including reserves. A copy of the Library's fine policy is available at the Circulation Desk.

Holds, Recalls, Searches
Patrons may request holds on circulating items or ask for recalls after items have been circulating for two weeks. Holds and recalls on CST items must be completed by staff, and request forms are available for patrons at Circulation. (Circulation records are confidential; names of borrowers are not disclosed.) Items that cannot be found on the Library shelves should be reported to Circulation for searching.

Book Return
An after-hours book return (wall unit) is located to the north of the Library entrance.

REFERENCE / INTERLIBRARY LOAN

General information and reference questions should be directed to staff at the Reference Desk. If no one is present, information request forms (located at Reference) may be filled out and left at the Reference Desk for a response, or the Catalog Librarian may be consulted. The Reference Librarian may also be contacted by email (see page 3) or telephone (909) 447-2511. Staffing hours for reference are posted at the Reference Desk.

Staff at the Reference Desk can also help patrons locate materials available at nearby institutions. In addition, Reference staff can process requests from CST, ETSC, DSF, and CGU School of Religion faculty and students to borrow materials through interlibrary loan (ILL). ILL request forms are available at the Reference Desk. Patrons should contact the Reference Librarian if they have questions about interlibrary loans or resources at other libraries.
