The goal of the Center is to foster intellectual inquiry and open dialogue within the Church and other interested religious communities on the complex issue of human sexuality.

Issues of sex and sexuality are at the forefront of debate in the United States, many Christian denominations, and throughout the world. As Claremont School of Theology prepares "leaders for service to God, the Church, the academy and the world," the Center for Sexuality and Christian Life seeks to prepare the same leaders to know and understand human sexuality and the ways that it is important in the Church, the academy and the world.

The Center exists within Claremont School of Theology and is located in the Mudd Theater. The Center was made possible by a gift to the School by Jeanne Audrey Powers and others who joined in her dream and spirit of generosity.

For more information about the Center or to join our mailing list, contact Sara Baron, coordinator of the Center for Sexuality and Christian Life at cscl@cst.edu. Since an important aspect of our mission is to foster intellectual inquiry and open dialogue, your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Since Claremont School of Theology is part of the United Methodist Church, we provide links to denominational stances on human sexuality as well as the church's commitment to be in ministry to people of all sexual orientations. These statements are hotly debated. In fact, the stance on human sexuality has been modified by the 2004 General Conference. The updated version will be available within the next few months. They are provided for information's sake, and do not necessarily reflect the stance of the Center for Sexuality and Christian Life nor Claremont School of Theology.
