"How can we strengthen a congregation's ministry in and with its surrounding community?"

This question was explored in a recent day-long workshop at Claremont School of Theology entitled, "What's Working in Community Connections?"

The event was recorded in four parts, and the School is now sharing the videos for use in your congregations.

IN CONNECTION WITH COMMUNITIES OF FAITH

Service to communities of faith is fundamental to the school's mission. The founding vision of our school included a commitment to partnership with churches — in the words of Dr. Colwell, our first president, we are to be about "enabling love through the churches." Today, we at Claremont School of Theology seek to live out that commitment to partnership and to update this mission for the present age, including in an interfaith context. We believe that both the school and the churches will benefit as we work together in shared mission and ministry.

One valuable resource is the Christian Leaders web site. This web site offers an engaging interactive case study of the fictional community of Almond Springs and provides varied resources for students, pastors, church administrators, and others. (This site is supported through the generosity of the Lilly Foundation.)

Currently we are seeking to expand and enhance our resources for and connections with the churches. We will be looking for ways we can offer resources to clergy and laity, in order to contribute to the mission of the church and to sustain its leadership. We want to learn from our church leaders.

Please also consider yourself invited to visit the Claremont campus any time. There are many new directions at Claremont especially in the ares of peace studies, spiritually, worship, congregational resourcing and intercultural living. We are eager to share them with you.

AFFILIATIONS

A United Methodist seminary, Claremont School of Theology is owned by a corporation consisting of officers of the California-Pacific and the Desert Southwest Annual Conferences of The United Methodist Church.

Claremont School of Theology works closely with the Disciples Seminary Foundation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and is home to the Episcopal Theological School of Claremont. Our student body represents close to four different denominations and faiths, with United Methodists as the largest denominational group. Students in the Master of Divinity program, many of whom are preparing for parish ministry, are the largest degree program group.

COMMUNITY

Claremont School of Theology has a strong tradition of active participation in the issues of the day. Claremont's faculty and staff are often called to participate in local, regional and global settings to provide thoughtful perspectives on important contemporary issues affecting communities around the world. Claremont's faculty members share their knowledge and commitments with the churches in many ways.

Our campus is open and welcoming to all. Not only do we build a strong sense of unity on campus, but we also build moral, ethical and spiritual leadership in other continuing education programs around the community.
