Gets Spring Cleaning!
CST Community comes together to beautify the landscape.
In Southern California, the gray skies of winter are opening into
spring, which means it's time for spring cleaning. The Student Council
at Claremont School of Theology worked with administration this semester
to organize a spring work day on campus.
Students gathered with staff and senior administration for the Monday
morning event. Beth Mueller, current M.Div. student, was instrumental
in planning the day. "I'm very impressed with the cordial spirit and willing
attitudes displayed in every department and in every individual," she
said. "It was really a joy to see all the layers of our campus community
working side-by-side."
"Campus work days have been a part of the School's history, going back
to when students helped Dr. Dean Freudenberger landscape the campus in
the 1970s and 80s," said Jerry Campbell, president of the School. "This
is an important way for the community to come together to provide stewardship
for our facilities and care for God's earth."
Freudenberger was on hand to help. He also donated materials for the
day, including new potted ferns for the housing areas.
A number of projects were on the "to-do list" for the day, including spreading
gravel and mulch in housing, trimming hedges, and raking debris leftover
from winter weather. Those unable to work outside worked on long-overdo
chores in the Library.
"Overall, the day was a success," said Anne Walker, Student Council Co-Chair.
"We hope this becomes a regular Claremont event that invests students,
staff and faculty not only in our physical surroundings but also in the
community we all share."
Other events Student Council is planning this spring include an all-campus
BBQ with members of the Board of Trustees and the second annual Multicultural
Festival in April.
